ILOILO City – Some P15-million has been allocated for the establishment of a library in Arevalo district as part of the Iloilo City government’s effort to bring educational services closer to residents.
The Chief Justice Ramon Avanceña Learning Center will be built at Arevalo Plaza.
According to the city government’s Public Information Office (PIO), Mayor Jerry Treñas has signed the funding allocation upon approval of the City Council.
“We have to revive love for reading through the district libraries. We have also named them in honor of our Ilonggo heroes in their district of birth,” said Treñas.
Treñas led the launching of a temporary library with a story-telling session for children at Sta. Filomena Day Care Center in Arevalo which is open from Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
He thanked partners Sigma Alpha Epsilon Philippines – International; UP Sigma Rho Fraternity; Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Chapter Order of Demolay; and book donors for the support.

The facilities are also equipped with computers and Wi-Fi connection for those who want to study, research and review.
The Iloilo City Public Library transferred from City Hall to Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Learning Resource Center and Museum at Fajardo St., Jaro.
