ILOILO City – Road and water projects worth P22 million will be built in Barangay Subog, Maasin, Iloilo.
Once completed, the projects will help villagers to access clean water and transport their harvest easier, according to Interior department provincial director Teodora Sumagaysay.
The road improvement project had an allocation of P12 million while the water systems, P10 million.
These projects were under the Interior department’s Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (Pamana) program.
Pamana aims to, among others, improve socioeconomic conditions in areas affected by and vulnerable to armed conflict.
The projects will start this year but their dates of completion have yet to be determined.
Sumagaysay said the Interior department had already downloaded the fund to the provincial government.
The Provincial Peace and Order Council will create a sub-technical working group that will manage the projects, she said.
The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process identified the recipient barangay.
Several conflicts between rebels and government forces have occurred recently in Maasin.
In June 2017 several New People’s Army (NPA) members raided the municipal police station. They tied the officers and took various items.
On Nov. 24 that year NPA rebels also ambushed officers of the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Sitio Camansi, Barangay Bolo. Police Officer 1 Joeffel Odon died while 12 others were wounded. (PNA)
