ILOILO City – The suspects in shooting a schoolteacher in Barangay Dorong-an, Tigbauan, Iloilo remained at large.

Police were also still trying to establish the motive behind the attack on the 27-year-old Lany Tamagos (not Lani as previously reported).

Senior Inspector Hermogenes Eulatic, Tigbauan police chief, identified one of the suspects as Henry Hermogenes, a resident of Barangay Angare, Dueñas town.

With a help from a tipster, police identified Hermogenes via security camera footage as the one who fired at the schoolteacher, Eulatic said.

Tamagos, who was teaching social studies at Tigbauan National High School, was on her way home to Barangay Buenavista at around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29 when shot on both legs and left hand.

“We are now preparing to file a frustrated murder charge against him (Hermogenes),” said Eulatic.

Hermogenes was on board a black motorcycle driven by another person, who was wearing a helmet and had his face covered by cloth, Eulatic said, citing footage from a closed-circuit television camera owned by the Tigbauan police station.

“Hermogenes was not wearing a helmet or covering his face,” Eulatic said.

He added that they were also verifying intelligence information that Hermogenes was a member of a gun-for-hire group in northern Iloilo.

Police were still trying to catch the suspects and determine the motive as of press time.

His live-in partner Connie Laquihon was surprised when Hermogenes was tagged to the shooting of Tamagos. She said she learned about this only from Facebook.

According to Laquihon, Hermogenes asked permission from her on Jan. 15 to go to Roxas City for work./PN
