SAN JOSE, Antique – The provincial government of Antique will provide an additional P2 million for the livelihood assistance for sacadas.
Angeline Javier, a Sacada Desk staffer, said the budget will be used to buy farm animals, sari-sari stores and tricycles.
“We want to provide extra income for sacadas,” Javier said.
In July, the Sacada Desk conducted a project needs assessment of qualified beneficiaries, Javier explained.
“In the last quarter of the year, livelihood assistance will be ready for distribution,” she added.
Financial literacy workshops were also held for sacadas to know their rights as sugar migrant workers.
Last year, the first set of beneficiaries received farm animals, motorboats and tricycles with a total cost of P1.8 million.
Javier said there are field staffers who monitor the status of the items distributed.
“Beneficiaries should take care of the livelihood assistance given to them. It will help them in their everyday living,” Javier stressed. (Antique PIO/PN)
