SAN JOSE, Antique – Some P75 million has been allocated for the construction of a building for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
Construction work might start in the middle of the year, according to OIC Governor Edgar Denosta.
Sen. Loren Legarda, who has roots in Antique, worked for the inclusion of the budget in the 2017 General Appropriations Act, Denosta said on Tuesday.
“We are so thankful for the funding,” he said.
Denosta said the senator advised that the façade of the old capitol building, where the SP currently holds office, be preserved for its historical significance. The structure was built during the American period.
Meanwhile Denosta thanked capitol employees for their services in 2016.
The acting governor hopes they would work harder this year, especially that the province is hosting the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in February and the Palarong Pambansa in April.
“We have a lot of things to do in 2017, but we can do them with your support,” he told the employees at Tuesday’s flag-raising ceremony.
For their part, SP members Fernando Corvera and Pio Sumande said 2017 marks a long journey for the capitol employees.
Corverva hopes the executive and legislative offices will work together for more awards to add to the province’s 2016 EXCELL Award in Environmental Governance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
He suggested reporting to work early to be one of the capitol workers’ New Year’s resolutions.
Sumande, on the other hand, said he expects Antique to “shine” this year, especially in the regional and national sports events. (PNA)
