AS A WAY to remind the locale of the truest essence of Christmas, the local government unit of Pavia, Iloilo has initiated a Belen-making (Nativity Scene) Contest.
“The Belens are aimed to remind us all the true celebrant of Christmas and do away, even just for this year, with Western ornaments and practices,” said the town’s designated Tourism Officer Mr. Dexter Dizon.
The 18 participating barangays prepared and designed their Belens using weather-proof materials and colorful lights.
“These Belens are intentionally placed in main roads to remind people that there is hope… that Christmas is hope,” Dizon added.
Purok 4’s Belen emerged as this year’s grand champion. Brgy. Ungka 1 came in second followed by Brgy. Pandac. Another special award which is the “Best Belen Parol” was also awarded to Purok 4.
This year’s “Paskua sa Pavia” has brought warmth to the community – a reminder that despite the current pandemic, there are still lots of reasons to cap the year with merriment, reflection and purpose./PN
