PDEA subjects bus drivers to drug tests

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – In preparation for the Holy Week that begins on Palm Sunday (April 10), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Western Visayas conducted random drug tests on bus drivers as part of “Oplan: Harabas” on Friday morning.

Seventy-five bus drivers from Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) underwent drug testing. They were all found negative for illegal drugs.

PDEA Region 6 director Atty. Alex Tablate said the operation – in coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) – aimed to make sure that no public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers were using illegal drugs and endangering their passengers and travelers.

PUV drivers outside Bacolod City would soon be tested, too, Tablate said./PN
