MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC notched its first victory in the 2019 Philippines Football League via a 3-0 domination of the Philippine Air Force FC at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Spanish striker Bienvenido Marañon fired two goals. Curt Dizon contributed one.

The Busmen bounced back from a 2-2 draw with Stallion-Laguna FC to improve to second place with four points.

Ceres-Negros got the lead at the 15th minute as Marañon drilled a 20-yard free kick to the top corner. The Spanish nearly doubled the lead twice before the halftime break but was defended by Air Force keeper Kenneth Dolloso.

The Negros Occidental-based football team was successful in doubling the lead early in the second half after Marañon laid off to Dizon, who smashed the ball to the roof of the net.

Ceres-Negros was not yet done with multiple attempts to widen the lead but were foiled by Dolloso before Marañon became successful in making it 3-0 as he slotted a cross by Dizon.

Midway in the match, however, three players went sent off following an altercation. Air Force’s Geve Cadiz punched Ceres-Negros’ Jose Elmer Porteria. Air Force’s Antonio Albor was sent off for a prior incident.

The defending champions Ceres-Negros will gun for its second consecutive victory when it battles Global Makati FC at the PFF Training Center in Carmona, Cavite./PN
