PH hurdler Bautista nets SEAG gold in photo finish

MANILA – Filipino hurdler Clinton Bautista edged Malaysia’s Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian in a photo-finish men’s 100-meter hurdles race of the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Monday night at the New Clark City Athletics Center in Capaz, Tarlac.

Bautista and Wan, the gold medalist in the same event in 2017, both submitted a time of 13.97 seconds but it was the former who emerged as winner; he was a centimeter ahead of the Malaysian based on pictures.

Bautista, a former Far Eastern University standout, failed to capture his second gold after settling for a bronze medal finish with Anfernee Lopena, Francis Medina and Eric Cray in men’s 4×100 relay.

Melvin Calano also contributed a gold medal in men’s javelin throw event, while Kayla Richardson, Kyla Richardson, Zion Nelson and Kristina Knott settled for silver in 4×100 relay.

Also with silver medals were Lilly Carter James in women’s 800 meter, same with Jenna Napolis and Marc Lim in their respective events, while Sonny Wagdos and Guimarasnon Joida Gagnao ended with bronze.

Eumir Marcial, Charly Suarez and Nesthy Petecio added to Team Philippines’ gold medal collection in boxing by ruling the middleweight, lightweight and featherweight category, respectively, on Monday night.

Marjon Pianar and Riza Pasuit, meanwhile, settled for silver while Negrense Ian Clark Bautista and Aira Villegas got a bronze each for bowing in the semifinals.

In squash, Raymark Begornia, Jemyca Aribado, Robert Garcia, and William David netted gold in mixed team event, while Begornia, Garcia, David and Christopher Buraga had a silver in team event.

Aribado, Yvonne Alyssa Dalida and Jimmie Avila trio ended with bronze.

In wrestling, Jayson Baucas and Noel Norada captured gold medals each, Margarito Angana and Jason Balabal settled for silver medals, while Jefferson Manantad had bronze.

In taekwondo, Kurt Barbosa took home a gold medal, while Rheza Aragon added a silver.

Kurt Pajuelas, Dex Chavez, Baby Jessica Canabal and Veronica Garces finished with bronze medals each.

In kickboxing, Jerry Olsim was the lone gold medal winner so far as Renalyn Dacquez settled for a runner up finish while Jomar Balangui ended up with just bronze.

Geylord Coveta and Yancy Kaibigan captured a gold each in wind surfing.

Also with gold medals were Dota 2 team and Team Sibol, soft tennis team event, Dennis Orcullo in billiards and Eric Ang, Carlos Carag and Alexander Topacio in shooting.

Jewel Napa added a silver in skateboarding, while swimmer Jiah Pingot and BMX rider Daniel Caluag also ended with silver, while Jasmine Alkhaldi and Luke Gebbie had bronzes each./PN
