MANILA – The Volleyball Community Gives Back PH (VCGB PH) is aiming to financially lend a hand to volleyball match-day personnel affected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by staging a variety show fundraising event online.

Amy Ahomiro, one of the VCGB PH leaders, announced that the “SERVE AS ONE Variety Show” will be aired on the ABS-CBN Sports Website, the ABS-CBN Sports Facebook Page and the ABS-CBN Sports Youtube Channel at 7:30 p.m. on June 5 and 6.

“We want to reach out and help our bouncers, ball retrievers, referees, technicians, and all those whose livelihoods have been threatened by COVID-19,” said Ahomiro.

“So, we came up with the idea of putting up the SERVE AS ONE Variety Show. All proceeds will go to the care packages for their families,” added the former Ateneo star.

The VCGB PH’s #CARINGFORALL: Down The Line, We Are One was initiated last month to provide assistance to paid-per-day volleyball personnel.

Ilongga Abigail Maraño, who was involved in distributing the second wave of care packages, saw the hardships of the match-day employees.

“Our volleyball officials and personnel felt really sad about the fact that volleyball will stop until next month. Volleyball, for most of them, is the only source of income they have,” said Maraño.

“I learned that they started small businesses like selling sweet Pinoy desserts, peanut butters and garlic spicy sauce to sustain their lives amid this pandemic, she added.
