ILOILO City – An over-speeding Mitsubishi pickup crashed against a tree on Sunday night in Barangay Sarapan, Passi City. Three persons died while nine others were injured.
The casualties were Jessabel Almarza, 30; Daryl Almarza, 35; and Bjorn Monegro, 11, all residents of Barangay Pamoringao, Cabatuan, Iloilo.
The following were taken to various hospitals in this city:
- Benjamin Monegro, 43, and wife Gina, 45

Restituta Almarza, 66; Marelio Almarza, 64; Rachel Cao, 25; Alyssa Ashley Monegro, 4; Cassiopeia Almarza, 4, all of Barangay Pamoringao, Cabatuan

Vilma Sodario, 45; and Franz Earl Sodario, 13, both of Rizal Street, Cabatuan.
The road mishap happened around 7:40 p.m. Police said all these people were Iloilo City-bound in the pickup driven by Benjamin Monegro.
From what the police gathered from witnesses, Monegro lost control of the pickup as it overtook a vehicle at a slippery curve.
The three casualties were in the back of the pickup. They were thrown out of the vehicle and landed in a nearby river.
Responding barangay officials took the three to the Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital where they were declared dead.
The victims came from a birthday party of a relative in Kalibo, Aklan, police said./PN
