ILOILO City – Two people were injured when a service van of a funeral home crashed against a pickup at an intersection in Barangay Poblacion West, Oton, Iloilo.
The impact that the Hyundai van caused on the Mazda pickup caused the latter to turn turtle, a police report showed.
Pickup driver Joseph Allen Capalla, 33, of Barangay Buray, Oton sustained head injuries and complained of body pains.
On the other hand, van driver Hermenio Centina, 53, of Barangay 8 (Poblacion), Tigbauan town complained of a slight pain on both knees, police said.
Emergency responders applied first-aid treatment on both drivers but Capalla was taken to the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital in Molo district for further treatment.
The incident happened at around 1:02 a.m. on Wednesday in Banggâ Pabian, an intersection of RM Recto Street and Gen. Luna Street, police said.
At the time, the pickup was bound for its driver’s home while the van of Majar Funeral Homes was headed to San Rafael, Iloilo for a funeral, they added.
Centina was temporarily detained at the Oton police station./PN
