Priscilla Meirelles has filed a petition before a local court seeking recognition of her foreign divorce from actor John Estrada, which was granted to her in Brazil last year.
Meirelles took to Instagram on Friday, Feb. 27, to share a copy of her lawyers’ official statement regarding her petition for recognition of foreign divorce which she filed at the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City.
The statement indicated that on March 31, 2025, the First Family Court of the Judicial District of Boa Vista, State of Roraima, Brazil, issued a Sentença granting Meirelles’ application for divorce and declaring her marriage to Estrada dissolved in accordance with Brazilian law.
The lawyers for the Miss Earth 2004 titleholder underscored that she is now asking the local court to recognize and enforce the Brazilian court’s ruling and all its legal effects in the Philippines, which Meirelles “has come to love and call home.”
“After much contemplation, Priscilla decided to file this Petition in order to formalize her civil status and to ensure all her official documents reflect this change,” the lawyers’ official statement continued.
It emphasized that the filing also marks a personal step for Meirelles toward healing.
“Priscilla considers this to be a significant step in her journey towards healing, closing a chapter of her life, and starting a new beginning as a single woman,” the statement concluded.
Earlier this month, Meirelles confirmed during a guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” that she is now officially divorced from Estrada after she filed for their marriage to be dissolved in Brazil in 2024.
