BACOLOD City – Human trafficking charges will be filed against the alleged recruiters of 14 minors rescued from a fake cigarette factory tomorrow at the City Prosecutor’s Office.
The Women and Children Protection Desk of the Bacolod City Police Office was preparing the needed documents.
The minors worked as cigarette packers at the factory located in Purok Riverside, Barangay Bata.
The charges will be filed against Jimmy “Andy” Chua who allegedly transported the minors from Iligan City and John Doe who helped him.
The Police Station 3 and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, in collaboration with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), on Aug. 25 raided the Alter Trade Building where 41 workers, including the minors, were caught.
The minors were turned over to the City Social Development Center.
The factory manufactures Mighty cigarette imitations without a business permit, according to the BIR.
Several boxes of fake cigarettes and sachets of marijuana were recovered from the factory, police said./PN
