San Beda sweeps San Sebastian in NCAA Women’s Volley

San Beda University Red Lionesses notched its second straight victory in the 95th season of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball after a 25-13, 25-9, 25-21 sweeping of San Sebastian College Lady Stags on Jan. 21 at the San Juan Arena.

Franchesca Racraquin led the pack with 19 points on 13 attacks and six service aces, while Nieza Viray volleyed 14 markers for the Lionesses.

“[Malaking boost sa morale] siyempre para makaabot ng Final Four, kailangan mag-ipon ka ng panalo. Ayun ang ginagawa namin each game na kailangan maipanalo namin para umabot kami doon sa Final Four na target,” said Racraquin.

After handily owning the first two sets of the game, San Beda had to dig deep in the third frame as they trailed 17-18 before mustering an 8-3 scoring run to conclude the set and sweep the match.

Shane Requierme delivered eight points, while Reyann Canete and Amaka Tan managed seven and six markers each for the Lady Stags that dropped to a 0-3 win-loss record.

Meanwhile, the University of Perpetual Help System Lady Altas pulled off a 25-27, 25-23, 26-24, 14-25, 17-15 escape over the Lyceum Lady Pirates for its second win in three matches.

Jhona Rosal spearheaded Perpetual’s offensive charge with a game-high 20 points built on 17 attacks and three blocks. She also earned 16 receptions and 10 digs for a masterful triple-double outing, while Bianca Tripoli added 19 markers./PN
