ILOILO City – For the second consecutive year, the University of San Agustin kept its being a top-performing school in the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination.

In the 2018 exam the results of which were released on Sept. 26 by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), all of the university’s 141 examinees passed.

Two of the university’s examinees also made it to the top 10. Eldy Villanoy Barrientos of Mambusao, Capiz was No. 3 (91.70 percent rating) and Albert Gamboa Escamilla of Iligan City was No. 9 (89.80 percent rating).

The licensure exam was administered for two days – Sept. 22 and 23.

“This latest feat proves that our system is at par with the systems that National Capital Region schools have. Indi na kinahanglan magkadto sa Manila for the course Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science,” said the university’s academic supervisor Jose Perez Jr.

The school’s MedTech graduates underwent rigorous preparation prior to taking the licensure exam. This included a comprehensive exam and a pre-board exam.

Barrientos said he did not expect to place so high in the exam though he aimed to land in the top 10.

The No. 3 spot was “just shocking for me,” he said.

Escamilla, on the other hand, said being in the top 10 was a dream come true.

Though a native of Iligan City, he said he decided to enroll at the University of San Agustin because the school had a good track record in the MedTech course and exam.

Now, according to Escamilla, he wanted to pursue another dream – to be a doctor.

According to the PRC, 4,718 out of 6,070 examinees passed this year’s licensure examination administered in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legaspi, Lucena, and Tuguegarao.
