BACOLOD City – Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) head David John Thaddeus Alba stepped down from his post seven months after his appointment.
SRA Board Member Pablo Azcona said Alba submitted an “irrevocable resignation” over his ‘worsening health condition’.
While still in office, the SRA head exhibited problems with his blood pressure, added Azcona.
Azcona denied that Alba’s resignation was related to allegations of sugar smuggling.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, in a statement, said Alba visited him on Wednesday, March 22, informing him of the SRA head’s decision.
Malacañang confirmed this on Friday and said his resignation will be effective on April 15, 2023.
“Upon the directive of the President, his resignation will be effective on April 15 to prepare the appointment of his replacement,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.
Alba was appointed as SRA head on August 2022, replacing Hermenegildo Serafica, who resigned amid the controversies hounding the issuance of Sugar Order No. 4./PN
