St. Robert’s Panda Rockets rule Passerelle tiff in SBP-Passerelle Visayas Finals

ROBERT’S International Academy Panda Rockets ruled the Passerelle division of the 2018 SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament Visayas Regional Finals on Sunday at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Gym in Bacolod City.

Led by Gwyn Miles Pendon, Kent John Parrenas and John Lester Amagan, the Panda Rockets staved off the tough Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu 66-58.

Mentored by John Guanco, the Panda Rockets will represent Visayas in the SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament National Finals in Pampanga later this month.

In the elimination rounds, the Panda Rockets defeated Hercor College Junior Jaguars (78-60) and Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts (81-62), while Ateneo de Cebu edged the Thunderbolts (60-53) and the Junior Jaguars (77-54).

Meanwhile the Thunderbolts salvaged a bronze medal after defeating the Junior Jaguars, with Nathan Jan Jundana and Martin Jay Beatingo leading the way on offense.

In the Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP) category, St. John’s Institute of Bacolod City failed to reach the national finals after a 52-56 loss to University of Visayas.

The SJI were untarnished in the preliminaries – an 83-63 domination over Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion and a 75-31 annihilation of Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix.

For their part the Red Phoenix captured the SBP bronze medal after a dominant win against Purisima./PN
