Clarita International High School Primes opened its campaign in the 2017 Bingawan Foundation Cup – Regional High School Basketball with a 97-54 victory over Bingawan National High School at the Bingawan, Iloilo covered court.
University of San Agustin Golden Eagles also had an impressive start in the two-week long basketball tournament, scoring 87-71 over Assumption-Passi.
Giann Paul Nahine led the way with 18 points for Primes, which was still fresh from bagging the championship in the 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball League (Mayor’s Cup – 1st Conference).
Even with the absence of some key players led by John Bryan Sajonia and Wilmer Dalumpines, Primes maintained its fiery form Saturday night as it quickly opened a double-digit lead against the host team — and never looked back.
“I am glad that my players did not show any championship hangover,” said Primes head coach Rodel Camacho. “I also like how other players have stepped up, especially in the absence of some of our key players.”
On the other hand, John Michael Vicencio, who recently represented Western Visayas in the 2017 Jr. NBA National Training Camp, top-scored with 23 points on seven three-point baskets to lead the way for San Agustin.
Other teams in the tournament are CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, St. Roberts International Academy Panda Rockets, Hercor College Junior Jaguars, Ateneo De Iloilo, and AMA University./PN
