CAPIZ – Over the weekend, residents and beachgoers spotted a stranded spinner dolphin along the shore of Barangay Punta Cogon, Roxas City.

The dolphin jumped and landed on a shallow portion of the beach and was not able to swim back to the sea.

Concerned citizens called Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras for help. The Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) was alerted.

Upon the advice of Dr. Ari Barcelona, a marine zoologist and wildlife veterinarian, the dolphin assisted back to the sea.

With the help of Punta Cogon punong barangay Reynaldo Alparaque, a motorized boat brought the dolphin to the deep part of the sea.

CaPENRO hailed the residents of Barangay Punta Cogon and other concerned citizens for taking good care of the dolphin while waiting for the authorities.

It had been reminding Capiznons to contact their office if they happen to rescue wild animals.

“Agud nga ma-aksyunan kag maprotektahan ang aton ginapabugal nga flora and fauna sa probinsya sang Capiz, ginadumilian ang pagdakop sang mga sapat,” CaPENRO stressed./PN
