ILOILO City – The newly installed director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Western Visayas wants to further strengthen the information and education campaign (IEC) on disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).
Jose Roberto Nuñez said the IEC will focus on local government units.
Nuñez added that all disaster risk reduction and management programs will continue.
Nuñez replaced Rosario Cabrera who retired from the government service in October.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed Nuñez’s appointment on Oct. 18. The turnover ceremony was held on Nov. 3 in Smallville 21 hotel at Smallville entertainment complex in Mandurriao district.
In his speech, he thanked the President and OCD administrator Ricardo Jalad for the trust they had given him to run the regional office.
Nuñez was planning to visit the six provinces in the region so he can familiarize himself with the areas and hear the needs or requests of local government units, which he will lobby to the national government.
“I know there is great responsibility that comes with the job but I trust that, with your cooperation and guidance and with the help of the Great Architect of the Universe, we will be able to accomplish the mandate of this office,” said Nuñez.
Nuñez had served as consultant under the Office of the President with expertise in technical services. (PNA/PN)
