SAN JOSE, Antique – Around 644 barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) in the province will gather in a one-day summit on Dec. 15 at the Binirayan Sports Complex.

Through the summit, the BNS will be given updates on nutrition program developments and a chance to enhance their skills.

The BNS locate and identify malnourished children through Operation Timbang.

Under the program, all preschoolers are weighed while their mothers interviewed regarding the children’s nutrition, family resources and other related activities.

Results of Operation Timbang serve as basis for corrective actions for government agencies carrying out child nutrition projects.

The BNS Summit has the theme “Hugpong BNS: Una nga 1,000 Days ni Baby Tatapon.”

Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang, deputy executive director of the National Nutrition Council, is the guest speaker.

Other speakers include Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, Provincial Health Officer Ric Noel Naciongayo and Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Leoncio Abiera Jr.

The summit also includes a contemporary dance contest, a daigon contest, and the induction of the newly elected BNS officials led by Jemma Bacongallo as president. (PIA/PN)
