ILOILO City – Police arrested a 42-year-old man tagged as one of the suspects in the shooting of a radio broadcaster in Roxas City, Capiz, following an intelligence-driven operation in Tapaz town on October 30.

Alias “Doming” was apprehended at around 3:05 p.m. in Barangay Poblacion, Tapaz. Authorities listed him as the municipality’s No. 2 most wanted person.

Police linked the suspect to the June 22, 2026 shooting incident involving Jay “Papang Jay”

Lavapiez, 48, station manager and news anchor of Baskog Radyo, along the highway in Barangay Cagay, Roxas City.

Lavapiez survived the attack after unidentified assailants opened fire at his vehicle while he was on his way to work. He managed to evade the gunfire and escaped without physical injuries.

Law enforcers served a warrant of arrest issued on August 12, 2026 by the Regional Trial Court Branch 15 in Roxas City for attempted murder under Article 248, in relation to Articles 6 and 51 of the Revised Penal Code.

The court set bail at P120,000 for the suspect’s provisional liberty.

Doming is currently under the custody of the Tapaz Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper legal disposition.

Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), said the arrest forms part of the regional police office’s intensified campaign against wanted persons, stressing that authorities remain committed to bringing suspects before the courts.

“We will continue to intensify our campaign against wanted persons to ensure that those facing criminal charges are brought before the courts and subjected to the proper process of law. There is no room in our communities for evading accountability. PRO-6 remains determined to pursue wanted individuals while respecting the rights of every person and promoting peace and security among our people,” Tuaño said.

He also urged the public to cooperate with police by providing credible information that could help authorities identify and arrest wanted individuals in their communities./PN
