BACOLOD City – A resident of Antique province working as a sacada, or sugarcane cutter, in Talisay City, Negros Occidental hacked a fellow Antiqueño to death, police said.
Police identified the suspect as Jane Paul Mariano, 25, of Valderrama, Antique.
Mariano fled after the incident, police said. Officers were still searching for him as of this writing.
Vicente Zamora, 54, of Lawaan, Antique sustained multiple hack wounds on the body, said Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City police head.
He was rushed to the Talisay City Health Office but the attending physician, Dr. Joesabel Macote, pronounced him “dead on arrival.”
Police said the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 in Hacienda Gusa, Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City where Mariano and Zamora were working./PN
