BACOLOD City – A barangay tanod was shot dead by an alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Poblacion, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Thursday night, Sept. 1.

Police said 53-year-old Jimmy Calibjo, a resident of the place, died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Judesses Catalogo, the gunman broke into Calibjo’s house and shot him multiple times.

The suspect shouted at the victim’s family in vernacular, “Wala sang may mana-og, NPA kami.” When the suspect got out of the house he shouted again, “May balikon pa kami,” Catalogo added.

NOCPPO director, Police Colonel Leo Pamittan, condemned the incident and vowed not to tolerate “acts of barbarism” against citizens, and especially members of local force multipliers who are their partners in maintaining peace and order in the community.

Pamittan ordered the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Unit to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrator to justice./PN
