BACOLOD City – Two village watchmen surrendered their makeshift firearms to the Police Station 5 in Barangay Granada.

Gelin Tanique and Romeo Patrana – both of Barangay Alingalan – surrendered their guns called “sulpak” to the police station on Sunday.

The firearms were each loaded with a shotgun bullet, police said. The weapons were now in the custody of the police station.

The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has launched Oplan Kontra Boga, a campaign against illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Records from the Firearms Explosives Security Agency and Guard Supervision Section of the BCPO showed that there are 11,734 individuals in the city who own unlicensed guns.

There are also 3,725 juridical firearms without licenses in Negros Occidental, the records further showed. These include those owned by private security agencies./PN
