ROXAS City – Tapaz, Capiz will have a new municipal hall. The new structure will be built right at the site of the old one.

“The old municipal hall is due for demolition early this year,” said Mayor Roberto Palomar.

Such was the recommendation of Commission on Audit (COA) engineers who inspected the two-storey building.

The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) had requested the COA to ascertain if the estimated 50-year-old building is up for condemnation and demolition.

“There is an urgent need to pull down the building so that a new one that is conducive, appropriate, and safe to the public and its occupants can be constructed in its place,” the SB said in a resolution.

Between P80 million and P100 million will be allocated for the project that is expected to be completed in 2018, said Palomar.

“[The] detailed engineering design is still being finalized,” the mayor told the press recently.

Tapaz, a first-class municipality, has a population of 51,313 in 58 barangays, based on the 2015 census. (PIA/PN)
