BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts completed its title-retention bid in girls’ volleyball of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) in Bacolod City.
Led by veterans Marianne Sotomil, Kiesha Bedonia, Alyssa Bertolano and Shane Carmona, Thunderbolts successfully retained the crown after beating Trinity Christian School.
Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice chairman for sports, said Thunderbolts’ back-to-back championship was a result of the school’s long-term volleyball program.
“This feat is a fruit of our five-year sports program development,” Montalbo said. “The players’ hard work, discipline and effort paid off. This will also help us prepare for future tournaments.”
Other members of the team were Katherine Shane Cortez, Beatrice Decena, Joan Doguna, Joan Monares, Jeanny Padilla, Nohlin Jundana, Marixi Maligmat, and Hannah Quanico. Ian Macariola was head coach.
Thunderbolts will also compete in the Nopsscea beach volleyball. The team will be led by Malignat, Doguna and Jundana.
Aside from Batang Pinoy, Thunderbolts was also set to join the Rebisco girls’ volleyball league on Nov. 20 in Santa Rosa, Laguna and the Provincial Meet next month./PN
