TEAM Iloilo’s Dhannalyn Mae Demontaño and Jackielyn Estoquia clinched a quarterfinals seat in the 2018 Beach Volleyball Republic on Tour at the Ichthus Beach Resort in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.
Demontaño and Estoquia advanced after sweeping Bracket A opponents Ilongga Nerissa Bautista and Jem Gutierrez of Philippine Army Lady Troopers 1 and Jen Manzano and Jossa Cabalsa of Philippine Air Force 2.
Bautista and Gutierrez also advanced to the round-of-eight after bouncing back with a victory over Manzano and Cabalsa in their afternoon match.
Negrense Bea Tan and Amanda Villanueva of Perlas Lady Spikers 3 also moved on to the quarters with victories over Ivana Marie Agudo and EM Ebro of Far Eastern University and Louann Latigay and Maruja Banaticla of PLDT.
Other teams moving on to the quarterfinals were Latigay and Banaticla, Angelique Gervacio and Charo Soriano of Perlas Lady Spikers 1, Judy Caballejo and Camille Abanto of Philippine Air Force 1, Rap Aguilar and Danika Gendrauli of Cebu, and University of Santo Tomas’ Babylove Borbon and Genesa Estapor.
A total of 25 teams were participating in the first leg of the yearlong beach volleyball tournament founded by volleyball stars Soriano, Tan, Gervacio, and Fille Cainglet-Cayetano.
The winning pair will take home P50,000 while second and third placers will get P30,000 and P20,000, respectively./PN
