PAVIA, Iloilo – Team Unicorns and AC punched tickets to the semifinals of Gametime Invitational Volleyball League women’s division. They have maintained their top two spots in their group.
Led by Athea Aposaga, Shauntill Pido, Henia Vee Celiz, and Chñ Sznn Piagola, the Unicorns locked in at second place in Group B with 2-1 win-loss record.
After losing in their opening game last year, Unicorns bounced back to defeat UCV in straight sets (26-24, 25-15) and a come-from-behind triumph over Lioness (21-25, 25-15, 25-10).
On the other hand, Team AC, which was led by veterans Princess Pido, Dessa Mae Puyo, Ukee Piagola and Roslyn Dusaran, remained on top of their group after winning all of their three games.
Team AC dominated Lioness in straight sets (25-16, 25-18) followed by a thrilling 25-16, 26-24 win over AVC. The squad also defeated Unicorns during the season opener on December, 2021.
Team AC will have to wait for the crossover match against the no.2 seed from Group B while the Unicorn will meet the top seed of Group A.
Team Maddyline of Lizza Anne Alimen, Rica Mae Cosio, Cathleen Lou Jaena, Kezia Jhernalyn Suay, Kiera Lyn Caballero and Janelle Shainnr Sabido, continues its perfect slate with 3-0 in Group A.
Team Maddyline, however, has yet to secure its semifinals standings with also undefeated J.Blazers (2-0) and third placer Lady Pythons also aspiring for a top two seat in the group.
In the men’s division, San Miguel (3-0) and Unitas (2-0) stayed undefeated as they remain on top in Group A, while VPH and IDC Alumni occupies the top two in Group B with identical 2-0 slate.
