ILOILO City – A man who allegedly stole milkfishes from a fishpond in Barangay Cubay, San Dionisio, Iloilo was shot dead by a security guard yesterday.
Roger Fernandez, 44, of the town’s Barangay Hacienda Concita died of a gunshot wound to the neck, police said.
The security guard was Ernesto Esclada, 54, of Barangay Calampitao, Igbaras, Iloilo and assigned in the fishpond of Tomas Hautea.
Police reports showed Esclada and another guard Aliman Escasinas, 41, saw Fernandez carrying “stolen” milkfishes around 12:30 a.m.
The guards asked him to surrender, police said, but Fernandez allegedly refused and even pulled out a .45-caliber pistol.
Esclada reportedly fired once but missed Fernandez.
A grappling ensued. Esclada’s gun went off, hitting Fernandez.
The two guards were taken to the San Dionisio police station./PN
