CEBU City – Over 13,000 Marian devotees braved the early morning rain to join the penitential “Walk with Mary” procession from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church to the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño. It is the first leg of the annual “traslacion” in the city.
The procession started around 4 a.m. on Friday.
After the ninth novena mass around 7 a.m. that day, the images of the Sto. Niño and the Virgin of Guadalupe were transferred to the National Shrine of St. Joseph the Patriarch in Mandaue City for the traslacion’s second leg.
Around 8,000 devotees welcomed the images there.
Cebu City Police Office deputy director for administration Superintendent Artemio Ricabo said there were no untoward incidents reported during the two legs of the traslacion.
Ricabo added that the procession and the motorcade went smoothly and peacefully as the devotees heeded their call not to light firecrackers or play loud Sinulog music to welcome the images.
Some devotees expressed their disappointment over the route diversion of the traslacion, though.
Their preparations for the passing of the two images went to nothing, they said.
The images were brought to Lapu-Lapu City yesterday before the traditional fluvial procession. (With a report from Michelle Bugtai, PNA/PN)
