BACOLOD City – Two unknown suspects shot to death a former member of the Philippine Army yesterday in Barangay Amayco, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Murcia police chief Senior Inspector Ryan Santillan identified the victim as the 43-year-old Benito Neparanom, resident of the village.

Neparanom, together with his wife and child, was on board a motorcycle on the way to an elementary school, a police report showed.

The wife – who requested anonymity – ushered the child to the school while Neparanom was waiting outside, the report further stated.

That’s when the gunmen fired repeatedly at Neparanom, who died of a gunshot wound on the head, police said.

Neparanom sustained five more gunshot wounds on the body.

The suspects fled after the incident on board an XRM motorcycle, witnesses said.

Recovered from the crime scene were six empty shells of a .45-caliber gun and two slugs.

Santillan said they were looking into a rape case filed against Neparanom as the motive in the shooting.

Initial investigation also revealed that Neparanom received death threats prior to the incident.

Police were still verifying the motive and identifying the suspects./PN
