KALIBO, Aklan – A Sangguniang Bayan member urged schools and radio stations in this capital town to help remind the public about proper solid waste disposal.
Radio stations may come up with spiels on the issue and let schools use them during flag-raising ceremonies and other programs, according to Municipal Councilor Cynthia Dela Cruz.
“Solid waste management is a major concern in our town,” she said.
This includes littering, solid waste collection, and unmanaged waste and dirty surroundings that can lead to illnesses and cause an “unpleasant feeling,” said the councilor.
Schools and roads leading to them are a repository of waste, usually from stores where students and staffers buy snacks, said Dela Cruz.
The Department of Education and the local government of Kalibo may work on an agreement regarding the use of solid waste management spiels, Dela Cruz said in a resolution.
A team that will approve the content of the spiels should be formed, she said, adding that the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas – Aklan chapter should be given a say, too.
Dela Cruz encouraged private companies and organizations to do the same./PN
