MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels snapped Motolite Power Builders’ four-game winning streak in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference by posting a 25-21, 25-16, 28-26 victory at the San Juan Arena.
Jonah Sabete spearheaded the attack with 14 points on Sunday night while Jeanette Panaga and Cherry Nunag contributed 13 and 10 markers, respectively. The Angels improved to 5-2 slate.
Jovielyn Prado also made contributions for the Angels with seven markers, 17 digs and eight excellent receptions helping libero Cienne Cruz, who had 20 digs and 16 receptions.
“Siguro maturity na lang talaga ng mga players and composure ang gumana kanina sa crucial point,” said Angels head coach Arnold Laniog. “Sabi ko sa kanila as much as possible maging aggressive tayo, maging intense tayo.”
After handily winning the first two sets, the Angels was tested in the third; they erased an 18-21 deficit to move to within match point at 24-22 on a block by Panaga and attack by Prado.
Back-to-back errors by the Angels, however, allowed the Power Builders to catch up and force the last tie at 26-all before Sabete scored a crosscourt. Nunag ended the game for the Angels with an attack.
Meanwhile, Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers notched its first victory after a 26-24, 25-15, 25-22 sweep of Chef’s Classics. Aklanon Dell Palomata tallied 16 markers for the Jet Spikers./PN
