SAN JOSE, Antique – Eight towns were given vitamins, antibiotics and de-wormers for farm animals affected by the southwest monsoon.
They are now available in the respective municipalities, the Provincial Veterinary Office has announced.
Provided by the provincial government, the items were released to the concerned municipal agriculture officers (MAOs) during a meeting on Wednesday, said Dr. Romeo Magdato, ProVet chief.
“The MAOs will identify the recipients of the assistance based on their damage reports,” said Magdato.
The recipient towns are Laua-an, Bugasong, Sibalom, Anini-y, San Remigio, San Jose de Buenavista, Tobias Fornier, and Culasi.
The southwest monsoon caused P2.2 million worth of damage covering farm animals, according to a damage assessment report from the ProVet.
Eighteen carabaos, 47 cattle, 125 goats, 64 swine, 3,344 native chickens, nine game fowls, 355 ducks, and 55 turkeys died of hypothermia or were swept by floods in the towns that were given the aid, the report stated.
Poultry or animal sheds made of light materials were damaged, too.
The ProVet asked for P200,000 from the province’s Quick Response Fund to provide the farmers medication that could boost the immune system of their surviving animals. (With a report from PNA/PN)
