BACOLOD City – This city’s Commission on Election (Comelec) temporarily suspended the voter registration with the city reverting to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
City poll officer Jan Anthony Saril said the temporary suspension of registration was in compliance of Comelec Resolution No. 10674.
“If the local government unit under their jurisdiction was placed under ECQ or MECQ they have to suspend it,” he explained.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia recently issued Executive Order No. 60 palcing the city under MECQ until Sept. 30.
Saril said they will only resume if the status will be downgraded to general community quarantine.
“Even if there is no registration and our office is closed we will still functioning through work-from-home system,” he explained.
On Sept. 1, the voter registration voter for the May 2022 national and local elections resumed following months of suspension due to coronavirus lockdown.
Saril said in a period of six days from Sept. 1 to 6, there were 229 registrants.
He added that the public should not be worried that the registration is temporary suspended because the deadline will be until Sept. 2021./PN
