BACOLOD City – The city government has started releasing the salaries of 1,955 “summer jobbers” from 61 barangays on Monday.
They were hired under the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).
The city government, through the City Mayor’s Office-Public Employment Service Office hired 1,800 student leaders, and the additional 155 were hired by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Under Republic Act 9547, or an Act Strengthening and Expanding the Coverage of the SPES, the Labor department must implement the SPES in coordination with the city government.
The “summer jobbers,” who worked for 15 days, received P3,000 each while those who worked for 22 days received P4,400.
Sixty percent of the salaries was shouldered by the city government and 40 percent by the DOLE.
