ILOILO City – The Duterte administration is bringing its campaign against crimes, illegal drugs and corruption to the grassroots.
The 180 barangays here have been urged to organize volunteer groups for these drives.
To be called MASA Masid teams or “Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomaliya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Ilegal na Droga”, these volunteers will enhance community involvement in the government’s campaigns, said Atty. Ferdinand Panes, city director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Under DILG Memorandum Circular 2016-116, each MASA Masid team must be composed of members of the Ugnayan ng Barangay at mga Simbahan, Barangay Action Team who are representatives of various organizations (faith-based, civil society, non-government / people’s organizations and other volunteers in the community), Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council and Barangay Peace and Order Council.
The MASA Masid program specifically aims to:
* intensify the advocacy and education campaigns in the community level
* mobilize the community on gathering information by installing a reporting mechanism on illegal drug activities in the locality
* mobilize support and encourage sharing of available local resources to hasten the implementation of community-based rehabilitation program, and
* create an enabling environment to encourage collaboration among community partners to effectively implement the community-based program.
The city DILG has given the barangays until this Oct. 31 to organize their respective MASA Masid teams./PN
