ILOILO City – This city has 180 barangays. Which is the most child-friendly?
Several barangays are being considered for the title.
The annual contest is looking for a barangay that upholds the four major rights of a child – participation, development, protection, and survival.
Now on its third year, the search aims to “awaken barangays and make their councils for the protection of children functional and responsive,” said Cherry Lyn Bermejo of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
The seven barangays are from the seven districts of the city. These are:
*San Isidro, Jaro
* Calaparan, Arevalo
* Bolilao, Mandurriao
* Veterans Village, City Proper
* Nabitasan, La Paz, and
* Calumpang, Molo.
A field validation will be conducted from Nov. 21 to 23.
The winner will be announced on Nov. 29 during the Children’s Congress. It will receive a plaque and P20,000 cash prize for child-related activities and projects.
Barangays Calaparan and Veterans Village were winners in 2014 and 2015, respectively. (PNA)
