Hyun Bin is known for being intentional in choosing his next work. So much so that it took him six years to return to the K-drama scene — his last one being the megahit “Crash Landing on You.” This time, in “Made in Korea,” he stars as Baek Ki-tae, an intelligence agent who leads smuggling operations on the side.
“Made in Korea,” which premiered on Hulu and Disney+ on Dec. 24, revolves around several government and law-enforcement agencies involved in corrupt activities in the 1970s. At the center of them is Ki-tae (Hyun Bin), who established himself as a high-ranking officer of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA) while controlling illicit business operations to gain more wealth.
One of the reasons why Hyun selected “Made in Korea” as his next project was the opportunity to work with director Woo Min-ho again.
The two of them worked together in the film “Harbin,” which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Since “Harbin” and “Made in Korea” are period pieces that revolve around power and corruption within the government, Hyun said these projects carry a lot of weight. The series might be a fictional account, but it still pushed him to show a “different take.”
