ILOILO City – A 31-year-old police officer was arrested in Barangay Poblacion, San Dionisio, Iloilo. His wife accused him of not financially supporting their young daughter.

Police Officer 1 Russel Lumawag was taken to the San Dionisio police station around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Juana Judita Panigbatan-Nafarete of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 38.

The wife specifically accused Lumawag of violating Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004.

“He did not resist arrest. He voluntarily submitted himself to our arresting officers upon seeing his arrest warrant,” said Senior Inspector Marvin Buenavista, San Dionisio police chief.

Nafarete set Lumawag’s bail bond at P40,000.

“Lumawag told to us he would settle this matter with his wife,” said Buenavista.

It was unclear as of this writing if Lumawag was able to post bail.

Lumawag is assigned at the Igbaras, Iloilo police station.

“Depriving or threatening to deprive the woman or her children of financial support legally due her or her family, or deliberately providing the woman’s children insufficient financial support” are considered acts of violence against women and their children under Section 5 (e) (2) of Republic Act 9262./PN
