WV girl spikers enter national PRISAA finals

THE WVPRISAA secondary girls volleyball team reached the finals of PRISAA 2019 National Games after beating Cagayan de Oro, 25-9, 25-18, in the semifinals on Thursday at the University of Mindanao in Davao City.

Libero Gwen Banas played solid defense in the entire match to tow the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts-backed WVPRISAA to second straight finals appearance.

Earlier in the day, the WVPRISAA secondary girls volleyball team rode on a strong showing by Kiesha Bedonia and Katherine Shane Cortez to topple Region 11, 25-19, 25-11, to sweep its Group A matches.

The WVPRISAA tertiary women’s volleyball team, meanwhile, kept its title-retention bid alive after pulling off a 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 win over Cordillera Administrative Region in the quarterfinals.

The WVPRISAA tertiary men’s volleyball team also scored a 25-16, 27-25, 25-17 straight set victory over Region 3 in the quarterfinals round.

Meanwhile, the WVPRISAA tertiary men’s basketball team reached the quarterfinals after splitting their matches on Wednesday with a 78-71 victory over Region 1 (Dagupan) and a close 81-82 loss to Region 5 (Naga).

In beach volleyball, the secondary boys volleyball team of Aklanons Clyde Nalangan, Kyle Macario and Mark Nagales went home with gold medal after beating Central Luzon in the finals.

The WVPRISAA women’s softball team, meanwhile, kept their unblemished slate after beating the Bicol Region 12-1 and blanking Region 11 15-0 on late Wednesday./PN
