WVRAA Meet 2019 opens in Roxas City today

STUDENTS-athletes from six provinces are set to compete in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2019, which will open today at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, Capiz.

The week-long tournament, which has a theme of “Hampang Nga May Paghiliiugyon Ipasanyog sa Aton Banwa,” will formally commence with parade of athletes at 3:30 p.m. Roxas Avenue before the colorful opening ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

Athletes from host Capiz, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Aklan, Antique and Guimaras will by vying for slots to represent Region VI in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City on April 27 to May 4.

Fifteen sporting events are on tap for the elementary division, while 22 events are slated at the secondary division and there were also four events for the paraathletes. Three demonstration sports in dance sports, aerogymnastics and pencak silat are also on tap.

Villareal Stadium will serve as host for athletics, secondary boys basketball, football, dancesports, swimming and tennis, while volleyball events will be at CPC Engineering Department in Arnaldo Boulevard.

Secondary girls basketball and gymnastics will be at DYDRMS Auditorium in Dayao, while Archery, softball and baseball are slated in Pueblo de Panay, arnis at Barangay Lanot Covered Court.

Taekwondo and pencak silat is at Robinson’s Place activity area, goal ball and futsal at Capiz State University, 3-on-3 basketball at Hercor College, billiards at City Mall and boxing at Gaisano Mall.

Other sporting events are chess (Hall of Governors), secondary girls sepak takraw (Inzo Covered Court), juniors sepak takraw (Banica E/S covered court), table tennis (St. Mary’s Academy of Capiz), wushu and wrestling (DPWH covered court), and bocce (Inzo Arnaldo Integrated School)./PN
