‘You’ stars Penn Badgley, Shay Mitchell enjoy Manila

STARS of Netflix Original series “You,” actors Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell, have just concluded their Philippine tour with a successful press conference and fan meeting held in Manila on Jan. 14 and 15, respectively.

The two visited the country to promote the first season of their thriller show, where Penn leads as the creepy bookstore manager Joe Goldberg and Shay as the socialite Peach Salinger. Together, they star with Elizabeth Lail, who plays the character of Joe’s love interest Guinevere Beck.

During their two-day stay, the cast were given the full Filipino experience, including a treat to an oversized serving of the Pinoy favorite and classic dessert, “halo-halo.”

Moreover, in between press events, Penn and Shay squeezed in a quick photo shoot with celebrity photographer Magic Liwanag, who had them pose by a jeepney, a popular means of public transportation in the Philippines.

Of the two, it was Shay who seemed to have enjoyed her stay more, clearly due to the fact that Philippines happens to be her other home country. Born to a Filipina mother, the actress said that she would’ve loved to give Penn a tour around the city if only their schedule allowed.

“I wish [I could bring Penn around] but we don’t have a lot of time here. I can only send up food up to his hotel room. Here’s pan de sal. Here’s pancit,” she shared during their press conference last Monday.

And speaking of food, it appears that Shay – whose visit marks her third – still knows her way around Filipino delicacies.

“I had to ask my cousin the other day. I ordered pancit canton but I didn’t want that. I wanted pancit bihon. I ordered lumpiang ubod but that wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted lumpiang shanghai. So now, I am going to order pancit bihon and lumpiang shanghai. I want it fried. When they gave it to me, I was like, what is this?” she said in jest.

In an Instagram story last Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Fil-Canadian beauty revealed that she also went to visit the kids of Virlanie Foundation in Makati City and encouraged for others to do the same.

“If you are around Metro Manila or nearby their office in Makati City, please drop by and help out!  Anything from in-kind donations for their needs or any small donation will definitely go a long way! Help us ensure that these children all reach a better and brighter future that they so deserve,” she wrote. (Push)
