ROXAS City – Twelve police officers of Dumalag, Capiz tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
They were all asymptomatic, according to Police Captain Leomindo Tayopon, Dumalag police chief.
A total of 26 cops of the Dumalag police station took COVID-19 tests after having been considered as close contacts of a police station detainee who tested positive for the disease recently.
A dozen cops turned out positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Five have so far tested negative for the disease, including Tayopon.
Nine other cops were still waiting for their test results as this was being written.
Six of the 12 COVID-positive policemen were quarantined at the Provincial Isolation & Treatment Facility while the six others stayed at the police station as recommended by the Rural Health Unit of Dumalag.
The detainee, meanwhile, remained at the lock-up cell of the Dumalag police station which was closed to the public. It would reopen after the cops have completed their 14-day quarantine.
So as not to disrupt police-related services in Dumalag, the Capiz Police Provincial Office sent an augmentation police force to Dumalag./PN
