ANTIQUE – An eight-year-old girl is recuperating at a hospital after being struck by a motorcycle while crossing the street in Barangay Poblacion, Sebaste, Antique on Wednesday morning, September 2.
According to Police Captain Ephrime Udani IV, officer-in-charge of the Sebaste Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred at around 7 a.m. near the Ypayo Bridge.
Initial police investigation revealed that the motorcycle, driven by alias “Nars,” a teacher of legal age, and a resident of Sebaste, was traveling northbound when the victim suddenly crossed the road on her way to school.
Udani stated that the driver was caught off guard by the victim’s sudden crossing and was unable to hit the brakes in time. The front section of the motorcycle struck the child, throwing her onto the pavement.
The victim sustained head injuries and body abrasions, while the driver emerged unscathed.
Responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the girl to the Sebaste Community Hospital. She was later transferred to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose de Buenavista town for further medical treatment.
Sebaste police confirmed that both parties have initiated preliminary talks to settle the incident amicably./PN
