Security guard stabbed to death in La Paz

ILOILO City – A 50-year-old security guard died after he was stabbed by a construction worker on Sunday night, February 22, in Zone 6, Barangay Divinagracia, La Paz district.

La Paz police confirmed that Demetrio Hilwano, who worked as a security guard at La Paz II Elementary School, sustained stabbed wounds to the chest and abdomen. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital by the attending physician.

The suspect, meanwhile, was identified as Herman Samson, 46, a native of Toboso, Negros Occidental.

In a radio interview with Leni Apostol, 53, the suspect’s live-in partner, she said the two men were drinking together prior to the incident. She recounted that a heated argument ensued when Samson confronted Hilwano regarding his intentions, leading to the stabbing incident.

The suspect fled after the incident. He remained at large as of this writing.

According to the La Paz police station, they are looking into jealousy as the motive, with the suspect claiming his live-in partner and the victim were in a relationship.

Police Captain Gimel Acuesta, officer-in-charge of La Paz police station, urged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.

Punong Barangay Maribeth Teves of Divinagracia also appealed to the suspect to surrender to the authorities to face the consequences of his actions.
