BACOLOD City — Artists from Negros Occidental opened a special art exhibit titled “BABAE” at the Provincial Capitol lobby on March 9, highlighting women’s strength, stories, and contributions to society in celebration of National Women’s Month.
The exhibit was formally launched by Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, who said the showcase serves as a tribute to the leadership and transformative role of women across various sectors of society.
Organized in partnership with the Negros Artists’ Group, the exhibit features artworks inspired by women as sources of creativity, resilience, and cultural influence.
Leading the group during the opening ceremony was its president, Patty Jane Ku Ong, along with members of the Provincial Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System headed by Marie June Castro. Members of the Provincial Council for Women, Capitol employees, media representatives, and invited guests also attended the event.
In his message, Lacson emphasized that celebrating women goes beyond policy initiatives and should also be reflected through culture and public appreciation.
“This celebration reminds us that the journey toward gender equality is not only about programs and policies, but also about culture — how we see, value, and celebrate the role of women in our society,” the governor said.
He also thanked Negrense artists for contributing their creativity to the event, noting that their works encourage reflection and conversation about the strength, wisdom, and leadership of women.
This year’s Women’s Month celebration carries the theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” with the sub-theme “Lead Like the Babaylans: Filipinas Leading Change,” which recognizes the leadership and influence of women in communities.
The “BABAE” art exhibit will remain open to the public at the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol lobby until March 31, 2026.
