Aiko Melendez and Onemig Bondoc finally confirmed what everybody had guessed not too long ago — that they’re in a relationship, months after the pair had been vague about their brewing romance.
Melendez and Bondoc confirmed their relationship on Melendez’s vlog on Saturday, February 14, while addressing why they initially didn’t want to put a label on their status. The video showed the couple during what seemed to be a romantic getaway at the Haya Nature Resort in Zambales — the venue of their recent tell-all.
“The questions that they’ve been asking us is if tayo na ba — it’s official. Yes, kami na po,” Melendez said. “Ikaw ang destiny ko.”
Bondoc, who had his arm wrapped around the actress-politician, echoed his girlfriend’s remarks.
“We are officially together. Sa mga gustong pumapel, sorry guys, may nanalo na. Isang hamak na businessman na nagmamahal nang tapat,” he said.
In response to naysayers who accused them of not admitting outright their relationship, Melendez clarified that she and Bondoc wanted to give themselves time to pick up where they left off.
“The reason why we weren’t giving labels yet is because we’re trying to catch up with the 29 years that was lost,” she said. “We’re of age already, we know what we’re getting into. Twenty-nine years ko na po siyang kakilala and meron na kaming na-build na foundation even before we got to this stage… not everyone is blessed by God with a second chance.”
The “Wildflower” star added that her past relationships were long-term, and that she believes that her romance with Bondoc is blessed by God.
After confirming their romance, Melendez expressed her love for Bondoc on Instagram, calling him her soulmate.
“You are not just the love I asked for, you are the love I didn’t even know I needed. With you, love feels calm, safe, and true. You understand me in silence, hold me in my weakest moments, and choose me every single day,” she said.
The actress also declared that she will choose Bondoc “today, tomorrow, and always,” and she’s ecstatic to spend their first Valentine’s Day together.
Melendez and Bondoc’s relationship began as friends and they remained close for all of 29 years, coming in and out of each other’s life. In the couple’s past vlogs, both spoke of how close they were to becoming a couple, but due to what Bondoc said was pride, this did not push through.
